Advanced training commences after successful completion of ST year 5. It comprises 2 parts, the continuation of core training and the acquisition of specialist skills through ATSMs. 

There are 20 ATSMs in all. You are expected to complete at least two ATSMs. They are designed to help you develop skills suitable for your future consultant career pathway. You should begin to give consideration as to which ATSMs you wish to undertake when you are in ST years 4-5 and discuss this with your education supervisor.  

Availability of ATSMs in the Severn Deanery

All ATSMs are offered in our Deanery. When you commence an ATSM you will need a supervisor in your hospital but you will also need to seek approval from the ATSM preceptor and the Deanery ATSM Director. These are listed together on the ATSM contact page.
