Regulations -
RCOG link
The regulations are clearly set out in the above link. It is worth noting the following:
1) You should start planning your ATSMs in ST year 4 so your aims can be stated in your ARCP at the end of year 4. This allows you a year to organise your ATSM before you can start in ST year 6. For example from 2009 it will be a pre-requisite for those wishing to do the Fetal Medicine ATSM that they will have successfully completed the new intermediate Ultrasound in Fetal Medicine Module
(RCOG FM link)
. It is important you read the regulations of those ATSMs you are considering registering for, well in advance.
2) You need to realistically have enough time to complete the ATSM so you will not usually be able to register for one within 6 months of your projected CCT date.
3) Non-NTN holders are not eligible to register for ATSMs. They can, however, complete the training if supported by the Deanery & local certification awarded if appropriated.
Registration
Trainees need to complete the
registration
form. This form needs to be signed by the local (Trust) Educational Supervisor in charge of the ATSM Training, the ATSM preceptor who has overall responsibility for this ATSM across the Deanery & The ATSM Director (Mr Tim Overton). The completed form then needs to be sent to the Postgraduate Training Department at the RCOG with the registration fee (currently £117.50) made payable to the RCOG.
The form can be submitted following the ST year 5 ARCP.
Completion of Training
Training will be deemed complete when all the components of the ATSM have been completed to the satisfaction of the ATSM Educational Supervisor. The
Notification of Completion Form
needs to be signed by the Educational Supervisor, ATSM preceptor & ATSM Director before being sent to the Postgraduate Training Department at the RCOG.
