This post was set up in 2005 as a joint initiative between St Michaels Hospital and the University of Bristol. The post is open to national competition, attracts an NTN and is recognised for training in obstetrics and gynaecology towards CCT. The postholder undertakes general advanced training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology but is given the additional opportunity to develop skills in the field of teaching and learning specifically in Undergraduate Education. The postholder is expected to undertake the ATSM in Medical Education unless they already hold a teaching qualification. The supervising consultant is Mr David Cahill (Head of Academic Obstetrics and Gynaecology). This post was last appointed in June 2008 & is due for re-appointment in the summer of 2010.

Applications are invited for the post of Academic Education Trainee at St Michaels Hospital, Bristol. This post is a joint initiative between the Severn Deanery, University Hospitals, Bristol and the University of Bristol. It is an exciting opportunity for a trainee who is interested in medical education. It has been designed to permit the postholder to continue with development of clinical skills and progress towards CCT while developing skills in the field of teaching and learning, directly in undergraduate education, but applicable and transferable to other fields. The postholder will be based in the Directorate of Women and Children’s Health at University Hospital Bristol.
The postholder will work closely with academic staff involved in RHCN (Reproductive Health and Care of the Newborn) to develop and deliver the undergraduate curriculum.
There will be the opportunity to undertake educational training, such as a certificate diploma or MSc through the University of Bristol THLP course (www.medici.bris.ac.uk/tlhp).

It is expected that the successful candidate will have had at least 4 years training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and will have obtained MRCOG Part II. All applicants should be eligible for CCT or equivalent with a minimum of 12 months training and the post is available from mid August 2010.
