Sub-Specialty Trainee in Sexual & Reproductive Health 

Applications are invited for a 3 year RCOG approved subspecialty training programme in Sexual and Reproductive Health.

The programme has educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean and will be recognised for award of CCT in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (Sexual and Reproductive Health) at the successful completion of training (and will not be eligible for consultant positions involving obstetrics). 

Applicants must hold MRCOG (or equivalent) and should have completed 3 years of training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (SpR4 and StR6 or above). The post is open to SpRs/StRs in possession of documentary evidence of completion of at least 3 years of equivalent training from the specialist training committee of the RCOG.  Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that the candidate provides confirmation from the Royal College and attaches this to the application. The post, which is available for immediate start, is based at Bristol Sexual Health Centre.

During 2007/8 the centre underwent a major (£2.2.M) refurbishment which has enabled the delivery of a new, integrated service model for sexual health that co-locates Sexual Health\GU, Contraception and Pregnancy Advisory (abortion care) services in this location, and provides a central hub co-ordinating with the community-based services, and providing clinical governance, training & education across the city of Bristol and its surrounding area.   

The Sexual Health department has a well-established research ethos and excellent links with the University of Bristol.   

Applicants will be existing SpRs/StRs in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the successful candidate will need to apply to their ‘parent’ deanery for an OOPT.  Those who have completed training (CCT holders) are also eligible to apply.  

Applicants invited for interview will be requested to give a five minute presentation to the Appointments Committee covering “What are the challenges for the speciality of Sexual & Reproductive Health in the next five years?”

Successful applicants must be in possession of all essential requirements by the time they commence in post.
