Description of Department and Training Opportunities:

The Trust was launched on 1 April 2002 and brought from its predecessors a strong track record of achievement. It became a second-wave Foundation Trust in July 2004 and is committed to continuous improvement, with emphasis on quality of care.

The Trust has 2 main operational sites Gloucestershire Royal Hospital (GRH) and Cheltenham General Hospital (CGH).  Both hospitals offer ample opportunity for training in both Obstetrics & Gyanecology with special interest clinics in Maternal Medicine, Fetal Medicine, Inferility, Urogynaecology, outpatient Hysteroscopy & Colposcopy.

The hospitals accommodate a comprehensive range of DGH specialities with up to 625 beds available for inpatients at GRH and up to 452 beds available for inpatients at CGH. The Trust also provides services to community hospitals in Gloucestershire in collaboration with the 3 PCTs. These include operating lists at Stroud, Tewkesbury, Cirencester and Lydney Hospitals and outpatient consultations at all community hospitals.

A new women's hospital is currently being built at Gloucester Royal Hospital.  This will be a three storey state-of-the-art Obstetric, Gynaecology & Neonatal Unit.  Expected construction completion date is end of December 2010.

GRH has a long tradition of clinical research and service innovation.
