Description of Department and Training Opportunities:
St Michael’s Hospital is part of the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust, the major teaching hospital within the Severn deanery. All major medical and surgical specialities are housed within the city. St Michael’s Hospital is a fully integrated obstetrics and gynaecology single site facility. As part of a teaching hospital complex, it houses a lecture theatre, seminar rooms, and clinical out posts of the radiology and ultrasound departments. The University departments of obstetrics, gynaecology and neonatal paediatrics are also housed in the building. There are over 5000 deliveries, 6700 gynaecology referrals and 3400 gynaecology inpatients per annum. St Michael’s Hospital is a regional referral centre for feto-maternal medicine, reproductive medicine and gynaecological oncology. Several of the departments have excellent national and international reputations.
The hospital provides a wealth of general and subspecialist experience and training. In addition to general antenatal and gynaecology clinics there are specialist clinics in reproductive endocrinology, infertility, the menopause, psychosexual medicine, family planning, colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy, paediatric & adolescent gynaecology, gynaecological oncology, early pregnancy problems, maternal medicine, fetal medicine and drug abuse in pregnancy. The department has accreditation for subspecialist training in feto-maternal medicine, gynaecological oncology and reproductive medicine.
