The South West Peninsula was historically part of the South West Deanery which divided in April 2005 to form the SW Peninsula Deanery and the Severn Deanery.

As a result there remain strong links between the two Deaneries. The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Speciality Training Committee continued to meet together and recruit together until 2006 with the commencement of MMC.

The Deaneries remain linked through the trainees which continue to function as a joint Trainees Committee with regional training days in both Deaneries open to all trainees from both Deaneries. There is also a Urogynaecology Subspeciality Training Post which rotates between the two Deaneries forging continuing links.
