ST1 and ST2

There are 10 training posts in each ST1 and ST2 year in the Severn Deanery as follows:

St Michaels Hospital Bristol - 7 posts

Southmead Hospital  Bristol - 9 posts

Great Western Hospital  Swndon - 4 posts

Most ST1 trainees commence at one of the Bristol Hospitals and spend at least 6 months in Swindon during the two years of basic training depending on individual training needs.

All ST1 and ST2 trainees are expected to attend the Friday afternoon teaching programme held in Bristol. Details available under Courses & Education.

During these two years of training trainees will be expected to achieve all the competencies in the basic training component of the Training Portfolio. Trainees will also be expected to attend the Basic Practical Skills Course in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and pass part 1 MRCOG.

Information for ST1 & 2 trainees about the RCOG eportfolio

All ST1 and ST2 trainees should have access to their RCOG ePortfolio.  All Educational Supervisors also have access to the eportfolio of their own trainee and the RCOG Tutor in Southmead, St Michaels and Swindon have access to the ST1 and ST2 portfolios of all the trainees during their tenure at their Trust.

ST1 and ST2 trainees should be accessing their eportfolios on a regular basis to undertake their regular appraisals, complete their work based assessments, up load their training documentation such as certificates of attendance and audit projects and to spend time completing their reflective practice.

All trainees should ensure their Annual Educational Supervisor report is uploaded onto their portfolio.

Trainees should also ensure they are encouraging their Educational Supervisor to sign off the competencies in the Logbook electronically. The RCOG has provided a paper version of the logbook in an A5 format which should be used for obtaining signatures from your Clinical Supervisors which can then be transferred to the electronic form at the regular appraisal with the Educational Supervisor. When all the competences at one level have been completed for an individual module then the summary should be signed off by the Educational Supervisor.

It should also be noted it is necessary to complete 3 OSATS for independent competence before that specific competency can be signed off.

When completing the Annual Assessment Form the total number of independent competency OSATS should be included in addition to the number of OSATS performed in the last year.

If any trainees or trainers are struggling with the Eportfolio then Sian Edwards (current ST2 at Southmead Hospital) has agreed to provide local support.
